Shaykh al-Fawzân: We love Jihâd and wish for it, but this is not Jihâd! We have said that this is not Jihâd. This is destruction! Is it Jihâd to kill people without due right? He even kills himself without due right. Is this Jihâd? This is not Jihâd. Jihâd has rulings, conditions and rules. It is the Muslim ruler who leads and calls to it. Even the israelites said to their prophet:

"Send to us a king, and we will fight in the way of Allah" (2:246)

They didn't go armed to fight on their own:

"Send to us a king, and we will fight in the way of Allah" (2:246)

I.e. a leader. Who did they ask it from? One of their prophets, the ruler.

Jihâd, which is one of the disposals of the ruler, is referred to the ruler. He is the one who orders it and takes on it. He is the one who recruits armies and prepares weapons. Allâh said:

"... by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy..." (8:60)

He did not say you should terrify the Muslims and those one has a treaty with. He said:

"... by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy..." (8:60)

Shaykh al-Fawzân: It is obligatory upon the Muslims to respect the governmental facilities and to take care of them and make sure that they develop. What should then be said about devastating facilities and to blow them up and the likes? Not even the mosques are safe from them anymore. They blow them up and throw bombs into them. They kill the people in their mosques. They blow up their buildings and facilities. In addition, they claim that it is from Jihâd for Allâh's sake and that they are Mujâhidûn.

One has to be aware of this and alert those who are deceived by these and think that this really is from Jihâd and that the deed is noble [while it absolutely is not]. The deed is in fact a destruction and Allâh does not love those who spread corruption. This is from spreading corruption upon the earth and Allâh does not love those who spread corruption.

Moreover, innocent people are killed. People whom Allâh has forbidden to kill without due right. They commit sins and they may even kill themselves. They blow themselves up and say that it is martyrdom. How can a self-killer be a martyr when the messenger (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) said that he is in the Fire? Allâh (jalla wa 'alâ) said:

"Do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful. And whoever does that in aggression and injustice -- then We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allah , is [always] easy." (4:29-30)

The prophet (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) said in the authentic Hadîth:

"The one who kills himself with poison will have it in his hand and drink it slowly and swallow it in hell. The one who kills himself with an iron will have the iron in the hand and stab himself with it in hell. The one who kills himself by throwing himself down a mountain will be thrown down into hell." (Muslim 175)

A self-killer has done a Kabîrah (great sin). How can he be a martyr? How can one say that he is going to paradise when the prophet (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) said that he is going to the Fire? Allâh allowed martyrdom to be reached if one dies for His sake. THEY (MARTYRS) ARE KILLED. They were killed:

"And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead." (3:169)

"And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah , "They are dead." Rather, they are alive" (2:154)

It is the one who dies in Jihâd under the banner of the Muslims who is a martyr. The one who is killed by the enemy. As for the person who takes his own life, he has done a great sin and risks ending up in the Fire.

When the prophet (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) was asked about the person who fights with vigilance, courage and so on and who from among them fights for Allah's sake, he said:

"The one who fights so that the word of Allâh shall be the highest fights for Allâh's sake."

The matter should be referred to the word of Allâh and His messenger (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) and not to deviant destroyers who brainwash people and give them these foul opinions.

That they destroy the administrations and facilities of the country and even the mosques goes to show that they have nothing to do with Jihâd for Allâh's sake.

If one risks being cursed for having urinated on the road or in the shadow of a tree, one may ask how the matter is if one blows up buildings with people in them.

These people are obliged to repent before Allâh ('azza wa jall) and to see the difference between friend and enemy and to learn beneficial knowledge by which Allâh guides them with to the straight way. They should not take knowledge from misleading people.

Question: What is the ruling on Jihâd today? Is it obligatory for some Muslims or for all?
When is it obligatory for the entire Ummah if it only is obligatory for some Muslims?

Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymîn: Firstly, you have to know that Jihâd is not obligatory for all Muslims. This is impossible. Allâh (ta'âlâ) said:

"And it is not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. For there should separate from every division of them a group [remaining] to obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they might be cautious." (9:122)
If all were to have gone out in Jihâd, the rest of the prescriptions and rituals would have ended. However, it can become Fardh 'Ayn (obligatory for all Muslims) in the following cases:

1 - On the frontline. If one comes here, one should accomplish the war.
Allâh (ta'âlâ) said:

"O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [for battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight]. And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allah , and his refuge is Hell -- and wretched is the destination." (8:15-16)

2 - When the enemy attacks one's country. Here it becomes obligatory to fight to defend oneself and one's Islamic country.

3 - When the LEADER orders him to go out in Jihâd. Write the word "LEADER" with capital letters. It means that one has to have a leader who leads the Islamic army. When the LEADER orders him to go out in Jihâd, he has to go out. When he orders a country's population to go out in Jihâd, they have to do it. For it is forbidden to be disobedient towards the rulers. When they are told to do it, they become obliged to fulfill it.

4 - When there is a need of the person. An example of that is that a person is a loner in knowing how a specific weapon is to be managed. In this case, it becomes obligatory for him to fight.

As for what is beyond these four situations, it is not obligatory for all Muslims to fight. Thereto, JIHÂD MUST BE UNDER THE LEAD OF A LEADER. OTHERWISE, A GUERRILLA WAR WOULD HAPPEN. THERE HAS TO BE A LEADER WHO IS LEADING THE ISLAMIC UMMAH. YOU THEREFORE SEE THAT IT DOES NOT GO WELL FOR THOSE WHO GO OUT IN JIHÂD WITHOUT THE LEADERSHIP OF A LEADER. There is a risk that they even attack each other. If they were to triumph, they begin to fight each other.

I ask Allâh that He helps us strive against ourselves. We have to strive against ourselves at the moment. Hearts are sick. The limbs are deficient. Hearts fight against each other. It is firstly this that is in need of Jihâd.

Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymîn:

I warn my Muslim brothers against what some stupid people do when they narrate april jokes. This lie have they taken from the jews, the christians, fire-worshipers (Majûs) and other disbelievers.

Not only is this act a lie, which is in itself forbidden according to the Sharî'ah, it also involves imitating the disbelievers, which is forbidden. The prophet (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Whoever imitates a people belongs to them."

Shaykh-ul-Islâm Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullâh) said:

"Its chain of narration is good."

The least one could say is that it is forbidden, even if it seemingly entails disbelief.

Together with these two sins, the Muslim becomes humiliated before his enemy. It is generally known that the one who is imitated boasts before the imitator and sees himself as being in front of him. The imitator thus becomes weak so that he imitates him. The believer thusly becomes degraded since he subjugates himself and follows the disbelievers.

Question: There are youth who intentionally practice some traditional Sunnah such as Izâr, right openings in the clothes and short clothes. They thereto forbid that one prays for mercy for Ibn Hajar, an-Nawawî and al-Albânî. What do you advise these youth?

Shaykh al-Luhaydân: It is a bad deed and ignorance from their side. It is a hateful affectation. May Allâh have mercy over Ibn Hajar, an-Nawawî and al-Albânî. I ask Allâh to have mercy over all of the scholars of the Muslims who have passed away and lead the living ones to that which is correct.

When the people start to slander their scholars, dead as alive, it indicates a ruined state. The youth should have a strong interest in attaining knowledge, not in order to possess bad ideologies or to slander the scholars, earlier ones or later ones.

Only a small and insignificant person slanders the great scholars. They have to repent before Allâh, ask Him for forgiveness and pray for mercy for the earlier and later ones. Allâh is more merciful towards His servants that these ones.

Question: Are al-Ikhwân al-Muslimûn, Surûriyyah and their likes considered to be from Ahl-us-Sunnah? Are they outside of the Supported group given that Shaykh al-Albânî said that they are from Ahl-us-Sunnah when he answered Shaykh Abûl-Hasan's questions. This made the matter unclear to us.

Shaykh Muqbil: al-Ikhwân al-Muslimûn and Surûriyyûn are divided up into several groups.

Some of them have knowledge about the methodology of al-Ikhwân al-Muslimûn and that it is democratic and that its founder was a grave worshiper and Sûfî. The one who in this case adopts this methodology is absolutely not a Salafî:

لَّيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَن يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ

"It will not be in accordance with your desires (Muslims), nor those of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), whosoever works evil, will have the recompense thereof," (4:123)

There is no difference between Surûriyyah and al-Ikhwân al-Muflisûn today. The bookstore al-Quds -- may Allâh hasten its conflagration -- in San'â used to put emphasis on spreading the books of Sunnah. They now sell 'Abdul-Majîd az-Zindânî's book. It is a book of deviance. In it he incites women to be members of the cabinet. This was the first group.

The second group is material. If the material commission ends, he goes to another group. This one is milder than the first one.

The third group is deceived. They are laymen or as laymen or maybe even worse than laymen among the pupils. They deceive them and say that they support the religion of Allâh. They for example said to one of the women:

"Go and vote. Put Kuhl in the eyes, show the face and powder up and put makeup on so that people do not know that you are from the [organisation] al-Islâh."

She said:

"I got goose bumps due to this command. With what other [than this] should we support the religion of Allâh with? We do this and support the religion of Allâh."

This group is milder than the first two.

In conclusion, the first group is not Salafî at all. It is not even Salaftî, which is a mix between Salafiyyah and democracy.

The methodology of Ahl-us-Sunnah, and which I also advise them to, is to stay away from all these calls that spring from Jâhiliyyah:

أَفَحُكْمَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَبْغُونَ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ مِنَ اللّهِ حُكْمًا لِّقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ

"Do they then seek the judgement of (the Days of) Ignorance? And who is better in judgement than Allâh for a people who have firm Faith." (5:50)

This lecture event was on Tuesday 8th January, 2013 and was broadcast LIVE in three Masaajid in Trinidad & Tobago and six Masaajid in the U.S. Masjid Al-Bukhaari, Florida, Masjid Ibn 'Abbas, Georgia, Masjid Uthaymeen, New Jersey, Masjid Nur Allaah, New York, Masjid as-Sahabah, Ohio and Masjid Tawheed, Michigan.

Our Noble Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Rabee' (hafidhahullaah) began by saying that truly the shi'a have been a tribulation and test from Allaah upon the Ummah; it has been a calamity that befell this Ummah and surely this is the way of Allaah, that He tests His slaves. For this dunya is a life of fitan, assessing the mettle of the servants of Allaah; it is an abode where good and evil mingle, contrary to the aakhirah which is the life of exclusive truth where evil does not mix with the good.

Shaykh Muhammad then went on to describe the history of this deviant group and how they came about. He explained the atmosphere after the murder of 'Uthmaan (radhiyAllaahu 'anhu) and the two positions held by the Sahabah concerning how the issue should be dealt with. He explained the role of the hypocrites in this fitnah and then went on to shed some light on the character of 'Abdullaah Ibn Saba' and the falsehood and shirk he injected into the pure Islaamic Creed from within. From them is his belief that 'Ali (radhiyAllaahu 'anhu) had more right to the khilaafah than Abu Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthmaan (radiyAllaahu 'anhum). He then went a step further and declared 'Ali (radhiyAllaahu 'anhu) to be the embodiment of Allaah and exalted be Allaah above the falsehood that he claimed.

Our Shaykh proceeded to explain that there is a group of shi'a who believed that 'Ali (radhiyAllaahu 'anhu) was the best of the companions. However, they did not see the first three khulafaa as evil men but believed in their virtue, loved them for the sake of Allaah and even prayed for them. This group is the smallest and for the most part no longer existent.

Now, the matter has changed and they base allegiance and enmity on a person's stance on Abu Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthmaan (radhiyAlllahu 'anhum); they make it obligatory to hate them and render them enemies of Allaah and if one refuses to do such they claim that this individual is misguided or might even make takfir on him.

The Shaykh then went on to say that the shi'a fall into two groups -- the twelvers and the zaydiyyah and between these two are vast differences in understanding and creed. The twelvers epitomize misguidance of the greatest magnitude; their beliefs are deeply rooted in shirk and even the affair of racism has entered upon them as they believe in the virtue of the Persian lineage.

Shaykh Muhammad (hafidhahullaah) continued by enlightening us about the linguistic meanings for the terms 'shi'a' and 'raafidhah' and explained the story behind them being referred to as the raafidhah.

He then proceeded to touch on their beliefs regarding the twelve Imaams whom they deify and deem to be infallible. Here the Shaykh listed the twelve Imaams and then explained that as for the twelfth Imaam, whom they claim has been alive for over 1200 years has never existed historically as his father, Hasan, never bore any children!

Our Shaykh further delved into some of their atrocious beliefs such as the deifying of Ahlul Bayt and their calling upon them in times of ease and hardship as well as their disgusting notion that the Qur'aan has been tampered with, is missing two thirds and the complete Qur'aan which they refer to as the version of Faatimah will only come in the time of the Mahdi. The consensus of the people of Islaam is that this is clear kufr.

Shaykh Muhammad (hafidhahullaah) concluded this sitting by saying that the danger and enmity of the shi'a is more severe than that of the jews and christians as acquisition of our wealth and land will please them (the jews and christians) but these shi'a have great resolve to spread their creed and would settle for nothing less than to drink our blood and ensure that no one from Ahlus Sunnah remains on the face of the earth. They sleep and awake upon their devilish schemes and plots.

This lecture is a must listen for the seeker of truth who wishes to acquaint himself/herself with the falsehood of the shi'a so that he/she may be wary of them as they seek to spread their repugnant beliefs.

A question posed to Ash-Shaykh al-Muhadith 'Uthmaan As-Saalimee (hafidhahullaah) in regards to brothers gathering in a particular place for recreational activity such as playing football/soccer and cooking food etc. Our Shaykh (hafidhahullaah) brings several points of benefit in his response to this question.

Questions:

[Q]: The brothers ask, is it permissible to specify a day in which they gather by the lot adjacent to the masjid, to play football/soccer and similar sports; they bring food and cook and so on. They also bring their families and their children, of course whilst observing the rulings that govern the mingling of men and women; however, there are no talks being given; there are no lectures on such a day. It is merely a gathering for entertainment for the brothers and their families.

[A]: The Shaykh (May Allaah Preserve Him) began his answer by saying,

As you know we cannot say that such is haram. It is incumbent, however, upon them to take this opportunity in this gathering of theirs to read some ahadeeth or perhaps some lessons in fiqh and that would be better for them. As regards to football/soccer it is befitting and better for them to leave it, because today football/soccer has become the trademark for some of the deviant people, and it is befitting for this reason that they shun this game and perhaps take another game instead, but if they were to play say half-hour after 'Asr pray, or perhaps between Dhuhr and 'Asr, then we cannot say that this is haram given that there is no gambling involved in such gameplay nor is there any bickering or fighting between the brothers; however, they should not take this as a habit, where they get used to naming a certain time to gather and engage in these activities, but if it is done sporatically then there is no harm in such, and it is appropriate for them and they should keep in mind, that it is better for them that they invest their time wisely in that which benefits them.

Derived Points of Benefit:

1.It is incumbent to take the opportunity to benefit from some type of 'ilm, read some ahadeeth or take lessons in fiqh etc.
2.It is better to leave off football (soccer) as it has become a trademark of the deviant people
3.If football (soccer) must be played like half an hour after 'asr prayer or between dhuhr and 'asr then this is NOT haram, once there is no gambling, or bickering and fighting between the brothers.
4.This practice should not be taken as a habit where a certain day and time is specified to gather and engage in these activities. Once it is done sporadically then there is no harm in it
5.Keep in mind it is better to invest one's time more wisely!

[A]: What I know is that this is something practiced by the sect known as al-Ikhwaan al-muslimeen (The Muslim Brotherhood) or something that is practised by sub-sects that have sprung from this sect, such as the followers of Muhammad ibn Suroor, also perhaps it may be something that is practised by the Shee'ah but Allaah knows best, but surely this is practised by The Muslim Brotherhood. For this reason I advise the muslims to not give such a pledge of allegiance to any Imaam that requests one, rather the Muslims should remain as is and should be patient until Allaah 'Azza wa Ja'l alleviates the problems that they are in today, baarakAllaahu Feekum

The Shaykh began by stressing the importance of rectifying the heart and encouraged being keen to care for it. Then he stated that we must make our hearts one with other muslims from ahl sunnah having nothing but love and respect for one another. The Shaykh then emphasized giving advice and admonished the muslims about giving and accepting it, highlighting the fact that the deen will spread as long as advice is given and taken, as the deen is sincere advice. He continued (hafidhahullaah) that from the things that make accepting advice easy is, to realize that we all have shortcomings and flaws that are even hidden to ourselves, and improving ourselves can never occur unless we accept advice. The Shaykh (hafidhahullaah) elaborated more on the issue of ahl sunnah advising one another and being patient and tolerant with one another, unlike the way we should be harsh and uncompromising with the people of innovation. A question posed to Ash-Shaykh 'Abdulllaah ibn Mar'ee al-'Adani (hafidhahullaah) concerning the doubt raised by the modernists, and others, that the beard is no longer obligitory in our time because the jews and christians now grow their beards and the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam) commanded us to differ from the jews and christians.

[Q]: How do we respond to the doubt and the misconception that is brought by some of the modernists who say that the beard is not obligatory to grow but simply recommended because the Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam) recommended or stated in the hadeeth that we must differ and go against the jews and the christians and today the jews and the christians grow beards.

[A]: The Shaykh (May Allaah preserve him) responded by saying:

What has been commanded in our religion is to grow the beard and let it become long and whether the jews grow their beards or not, is not a reason for us to leave the truth, and if the jews grow their beard then its not a reason for us to leave one of the traits of the fitrah (the natural disposition that Allaah has created us upon). Whoever contemplates the evidences from the book of Allaah and the sunnah of the Messenger (sallaAllaahu 'alayhu wa sallam) will become certain that what is required of the Muslim is to grow and lengthen his beard as found in the hadeeth of Ibn 'Umar (radhi Allaahu 'anhu) that is found in as-saheeh and other ahadeeth. So if the jews come back to the fitrah, to the nature that is untampered with, unmodified, undisturbed, and surely they haven't because not all of them have come back to growing a beard, and they stop shaving and those who have grown beards are not growing them in accordance with the legislation, except for the few and the rare, but if they do this, it is not a reason for us to leave the truth and surely there are many examples of the like in the book of Allaah and the sunnah of the Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam). If every time a person of falsehood, a person of kufr (disbelief) comes back to some item of the truth, are we going to leave it? No, but rather this will be an indication to us that we are upon the truth. This is an indication for the man that is upon the khayr (good) that this is the khayr (good) and this will increase him in reverence of it and love for it and tenacity in adhearing to it, and surely the growing of the beard in accordance with the sunnah of Muhammad (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) is cause for much good in both the dunya (the worldly life) and akhirah (the hereafter). For example, from the benefits that you obtain in your deen for growing a beard is the fact that a man who grows his beard in following of the sunnah of Muhammad (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam), is a man who is showing pride in his deen. He is proud of being a Muslim, and so you find such a man showing this pride. You will not find him committing acts that are lowly, committing acts that are shameful, that people of religiousity are not supposed to commit. Whereas the other, who shaves his beard is more hasty, and more likely to be found doing things that are shameful and dispicable. So the beard in this instance proved one more reason to cause him to have shame and humility from Allaah and to stay away from that which is forbidden and that which is considered dispicable and ugly, and this is but a little of many many benefits. Another example, but this one fom the benefits in the dunya, is that which is spoken about by some of the people of medicine regarding the benefits of growing one's beard, and how it is a cause for protection from a number of diseases and a cause for keeping and preserving one's health, whereas those who shave there beards subject their skin to a number of well known diseases and other types of afflictions and tribulations that are brought on by shaving the beard. So we say indeed all praise is to Allaah who has guided us to this khayr (good) and guided us to this sunnah that contains everthing that is good in it and Allaah has protected us from the evils of leaving it, and it is not befitting for a man to leave that which is good which Allaah has guided him to and take other than it.

Our Noble Shaykh Muhammad al-Imaam (hafidhahullaah) delivered a powerful lecture in refutation of the christians and those who claim that 'Eesaa Ibn Maryam is the son of Allaah, bringing the necessary proofs from the texts -- the Book of Allaah and the sunnah of His Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam).

The Shaykh commenced by mentioning that all of us were born upon the fitrah (the natural dispostion) and explained that between the time of Aadam and Nuh, the people were one nation united upon Tawheed. When disbelief increased and shirk (polytheism) entered into the deen (religion), Allaah sent the various prophets to clarify the truth to people and call them to tawheed, like Nuh, Musaa, 'Eesaa and Muhammad ('alayhum as-salaam).

He then went on to say that the nasaara (christians) remained upon the haqq (truth) for a long time until a yahoodi (jew) who feigned piety and worship came along and caused the people to deviate from the correct religion of 'Eesaa. When this happened and truth became hidden, Allaah sent Muhammad (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) to save the people from shirk (polytheism) and kufr (disbelief).

The Shaykh (hafidhahullaah) continued by explaining that if an individual disbelieves in a single Prophet then he has also disbelieved in those that came before and after. So in reality, the christians have disbelieved in 'Eesaa ('alayhi salaam), the one they claim to revere due to them rejecting Muhammad (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam).

Our Shaykh then went on to elaborate on the great calamity of shirk (polytheism); that it is the most evil of actions and severest of dhulm (oppression); it is the most dangerous sin upon an individual and because of it Allaah has destroyed many nations and peoples.

Clarifying the matter, Shaykh Muhammad explained that 'Eesaa and his mother Maryam are totally free from the christian's worship of them and on the Day of Judgement 'Eesaa Ibn Maryam will free himself from their worship of him and his mother.

In closing the Shaykh stated that even within christianity there is major contradiction as some say that 'Eesa is God, while some say he is the son of God while others say he is one in three and the like of this. Finally, he went on to say that 'Easaa will descend in the time of the Mahdi in order to kill the Dajjaal (anti-christ); he will implement the laws of Muhammad (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), call the people to Tawheed and clarify the affair to the christians.

This lecture was indeed one potent with much benefit and clarification. ALL are encouraged to listen to it in its entirety and share it with others.

The Shaykh began by quoting the famous hadeeth of the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) "This Deen is Advice...". He clarified that by 'advice', the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) is referring to sincere care and love for the one being advised. This is the methodology of all of the messengers. They possessed genuine concern for the uprightness and betterment of their fellow Muslim, wherein that if they saw one falling into harm, be it regarding deen (religion) or dunya (worldly) related matters, they felt saddened for him and rushed to advise him. The Shaykh stressed on the importance of approaching the individual privately and in a gentle and soft manner and consequently, avoiding embarrassing him and publicising his flaws. He cited this as the correct way to approach the common folk and even the ruler who is guilty of a sin but is open to advice and seeks good for himself. For this type of individual, it becomes haram to publically chastise him. However, the Shaykh then showed those instances where it becomes incumbent and necessary to name the individual and openly warn the people of his corruption. Such is in the case for example, of the one practising innovations who misleads the people by it and is stubborn on that error.

After distinguishing the proper intention one should have when advising each other, the Shaykh then exposed the evil intentions exemplified by people who outwardly appear to aid in correcting others but in reality, they have two main objectives:
1.They intend to tarnish the individual's reputation and humiliate him, and
2.they aim to gain status and respect amongst the people as the one who advises others.

Regarding the one who is a victim of such slandering, then the Shaykh advises him to be patient and expect his reward from Allaah and as for the one who holds the evil intentions mentioned above, then he should be weary of Allaah's humiliation on him. The Shaykh uses numerous examples from the Qur'aan and the Sunnah throughout the lecture to illustrate Allaah's love for gentleness and His hate for slandering.

We ask Allaah, Al-Haqq, to make the haqq apparent to use and give us the courage to follow it and to make the baatil clear to us and give us the strength to stay away from it.

If you discuss with them calmly and explain the truth to them, they return [to the truth]. In any case, we treat them as they treat us. We incite them towards the truth thereto and clarify to them what misguidance they are in when they innovate. Allâh will probably guide them.

Question: It is known that Shî'ah and Murji'ah are significantly different from Ahl-us-Sunnah wal-Jamâ'ah. There is a principle some scholars call as "The golden rule". It stands for helping each other in that which one agrees on and excusing one another in that which one disagree on. How do we excuse these Shî'ah?

Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymîn: This golden rule is not a golden rule at all. It is not suitable as a rule at all. That which we agree on is part of Allâh's ('azza wa jall) blessing. Unity is better than disunity.

As for that which we disagree on, it is both possible that we excuse each other and that we do not do so. If it is a disagreement in a matter about which it is possible to disagree on, no harm is done [if we disagree]. The Imâms have always disagreed. Imâm Ahmad, ash-Shâfi'î, Mâlik and Abû Hanîfah all disagreed.

However, if it is a disagreement that is not excused, such as in the creeds (´Aqâ'id, عقائد), we do not excuse each other at all. It is in this case obligatory to refer to that which has been proved in the Qur'ân and the Sunnah. The Murji'ah, Shî'ah and all other innovators are obliged to refer to the Qur'ân and Sunnah and they should not be excused.

This principle is not a golden principle. You should have called it the "tree principle" instead.

Question: We have earlier advised him to stick to the methodology of the Salaf. Some youths, however, are divided. Some youths say that one should not advise him in regards to where he is right, rather regarding the earlier. I said to the youths that the man is intransigent and that he slanders Ahl-ul-Hadîth such as Shaykh Rabî'. We have advised him since earlier.

Shaykh an-Najmî: It is obligatory to boycott him. If you have advised him for 7 years and he still continues to refuse accepting, you should boycott him. It is okay. Some of the Salaf said:

"If you see a person from Kûfah slander Sufyân ath-Thawrî, you should know that he is an innovator. If you see a person from Marw slander 'Abdullâh bin al-Mubârak, you should know that he is an innovator."

The one who slanders Rabî' proves himself that he is an innovator who likes the innovators and praises Ahl-ul-Bid'ah such as ´Â'idh al-Qarnî and others. Leave him, screen yourselves from him, avoid him and stay far away from him.

Question: It is said that the two Imams Ibn Hajar and an-Nawawî (rahimahumâ Allâh) commented on the Hadîth "Hear and obey even if he flogs your back and takes your property." that it applies to the righteous Caliph that has treated an individual unjustly and who should have patience in order to avoid tribulations.

Shaykh al-Fawzân: The Hadîth is general. It is not directed at any individual at all. The Hadîth of the messenger (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) is general for the entire Ummah. The one who interprets it in another way has a desire in himself. He wants to explain the Hadîth in accordance with his desire, urge and creed. But the Hadîth is, as said, not to his advantage. It is general, and all praise is due to Allâh.

In addition, I have not found this in the words of an-Nawawî. We referred to them without finding an-Nawawî saying this.

Question: You did not find it after looking into an-Nawawî's and Ibn Hajar's books?

Shaykh Ibn Bâz: Yes, they are rulers, regardless of whether they are in Kuwait, Jordan, or Syria. They are rulers. It is obligatory to obey them in that which is allowed, which was said by the prophet (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam). One should obey in that which is allowed and not in that which is a sin, regardless of whether it is concerning them or others. If they say that one should drink liquor, one refuses. If they say that one should accept usury, one refuses. If they say that one should perform adultery, one refuses.

However, were they to order one to obey Allâh and His messenger (sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) or something that benefits the Muslims and nothing evil or traffic regulations in order to avoid traffic accidents, it is obligatory to obey them in that.
