Our belief about the Qur’aan [Collection]

Since the time of the Salaf, numerous misguided groups have emerged, holding wrong views and uttering statements of disbelief regarding the Qur’aan, which is the Speech of Allaah. The Salaf refuted these groups, firmly upholding the pure and unaltered ‘Aqeedah regarding the Qur’aan and the Attributes of Allaah.

Today, many Muslims unknowingly hold misguided, innovated, and kufri beliefs and speech regarding the Qur’aan due to their ignorance.

Thus, this article is a compilation of some articles that should be read to refute these false beliefs and to present the correct belief regarding the Qur’aan.

Our Belief about the Qur’aan

One should begin by reading the 3 articles in the link above, which have been written by Shaykh Abu ‘Iyaad Amjad Rafiq.

In these articles, the shaykh clearly presents the belief of the Salaf regarding the Qur’aan as the uncreated Speech of Allaah, and he also refutes the claim that the Qur’aan is eternal.

The Shaykh explains that our voices, by which we recite the Qur’aan, the ink we use to write the Qur’aan, the paper on which we write the Qur’aan, and our hearts, by which we memorize the Qur’aan, are all created, and they are not the Speech of Allaah. However, what is written on the paper, what is recited on our tongues, and what is memorized in our hearts is the uncreated Qur’aan.

Furthermore, the Shaykh clears up the confusion brought up by Christians, who claim that we believe the Qur’an left Allaah and became its own entity, taking a physical and created form. Rather this is a false and refuted notion.

When we assert that the Attributes of actions of Allaah are not eternal, the misguided individuals attempt to raise doubt by suggesting that we are claiming these Attributes came into existence after not being in existence, implying that they have been created. However, this is a false statement because, as Shaykh Abu ‘Iyaad has elaborated in detail in the article above, they have confused the concept of an essence being preceded by non-existence with that of an action occurring after not having occurred. Therefore, when an action takes place from Allaah’s Will after not having occurred, it does not imply that it has been created.

This article provides further elaboration on the refutation against the claim of the Jahmite Ash’aris, who attempt to assert that the Qur’aan is created.

This article written by Shaykh Abu ‘Iyaad explains why it should not be said that the letters of the alphabet are created, nor should it be said that they are not created, the same way it should not be said that the attributes in a general way are created “when it is known that both the uncreated (Allaah) and the created have attributes“.

This book written by shaykh Moosaa Richardson gives the clear statements and proofs from the Salaf and from the scholars of the Sunnah in general proving that what is written in the Mus-haf is actually the Qur’aan.

This book – written by shaykh Moosaa Richardson – is a clear refutation against the statements of kufr that Yusuf Estes uttered regarding the Qur’aan.

In shaa’ Allah, after reading these books and articles, one would gain sufficient knowledge about our belief regarding the Qur’aan, enabling them to steer clear of the traps set by those who propagate misguidance.
